Friday's Letters

So, this is the post I did Friday that I forgot to post.  I'm posting it now anyway... :-)

Dear Melissa, I'm so excited about your wedding!  Can't wait for tomorrow and watching you marry Mr. Right.  So glad God blessed you with each other.
Dear Nephews, I can't wait to see you and your cute selves this weekend!
Dear God, I know you are faithful and you keep your promises, it's what keeps me going.  Help me serve you in all I do.
Dear Breakfast Joint, thanks so much for being open today.  I have missed you so this week.
Dear Spray Tan, please don't fail me and start rubbing off.
Dear Mama, you did awesome this morning.  You are going further and running more all the time.  I'm so proud of your committment.

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursdays Button

I just feel so very thankful this week, and I found a link up that let's me share it.  God has blessed me with lots in the past couple of weeks.  He knows me well and knows what I need.  So I've been on the receiving end of

-A much needed 2 hour walk and talk with a friend who will listen to lots of rambling
-A morning stroll with a friend who wants to work on a challenge herself in some of the same areas I do
-A beach trip with lots of great ladies including my longtime friend who never fails to make me laugh so hard it hurts
-Some new workout challenges from my cousin
-A good visit with my parents
-Lunch with some girls at work I don't have the opportunity to visit with enough
-iPhone Facetime with my nephew (have you ever used it, so cool!!)
-a Facebook message from a college friend who is one of the most encouraging, Godly, genuine people I know
-the sweetest comments and likes on a picture from the beach
-a fantastic book a friend gave me that I want to do a whole seperate post on
-the excitement of a friend's wedding and watching people committ to each other for always
-holiday time with family and friends

I've always needed a little variety and change in my world, I'm easily bored when everything feels the same, so all these little things have added the spice in my life I've been needing lately.

It's Ok

It's that time again...

Its Ok Thursdays

It's OK...
...that since it was raining when it was time to run, I went back to sleep for 3 more hours!!!
...that my 3 hours oversleep has kind of messed up my whole day.
...that I had a dream during the 3 hour oversleep that my roommate from college's family had gone broke and that my mom was pregnant.  It was weird, my sisters and I weren't even that shocked.
...that the cute new wedges I bought yesterday (for 17.50, woot woot) are eating my ankles
...that last night's blog post on the ESPY's has caused the most traffic I've ever seen on my blog, I find that so funny
...that I waited until the last minute to find bridesmaid shoes, because I found them on sale, and they are cute if I do say so myself!
...that I think the new Dallas is the best thing on summer TV
...that I like that being a bridesmaid gives me the excuse to spend money pampering.  On today's agenda, nails, toes, and my favorite, a spray tan!
...that I am so weird about using gift certificates, especially at the spray tan place.  I feel like I'm ripping them off somehow, even though I know I'm not
...that I got a major high showing a friend the joys of CVS and saving money there yesterday.  I know, super dork here.
...that I haven't been to the grocery store in 3 weeks.  My refrigerator is just sad.
...that I have an irrational excitement about my breakfast joint reopening after 4 days closed this week.  It's been rough.
...that I randomly use different fonts for different posts.

Happy Thursday!

ESPY talk

**As I watched more, I had to go back and edit this post at the bottom, so if it pops up on your google reader twice, I apologize

I am a sports lover.  Most any sport (except baseball - snooze fest) I want to watch from start to finish, so when I saw the ESPY's are on tonight, I decided to give it a try.  Awards shows can be fun, pretty dresses, funny hosts, good music.  Well, the ESPY's is not proving one of those.

Bad Parts
#1 - guys win most of the awards, and looking at different suits just isn't that interesting.
#2 - Bless her 6'10" heart, Brittany Griner just won for best female athlete, and so that was another miss on seeing a pretty dress, or even an ugly dress.  She had on slacks and a vest
#3 - The women I have seen can't seem to decide whether this is a formal event or a BBQ, the styles are all over the place, and not one dress has made me swoon.
#4 - The 2012 highlights they were showing in the pre-show are nothing new.  If you love that sport, you've seen that highlight 10 times on SportsCenter.  If you don't love that sport, another ball being hit over a fence, or another outfielder sliding across grass and catching a ball does nothing to inspire me.
#5 - Chris Berman's hair dresser
#6 - Random rap music

Good parts
#1 - Tim Tebow presenting - Though it's taken time for me to let go of my feelings of ill will that he chose to play for Florida in college, he grows on me more and more all the time
#2 - Micheal Jordan highlights - don't think I could ever get enough
#3 - Kerri Strug Olympics highlight - never fails to bring a tear to my eye.  That. Was. Amazing!  Whose heart wasn't bursting with American pride that night??

Time out, they are doing a piece on Pat Summitt, that Peyton Manning is intro-ing, and Reese Witherspoon is narrating.  I could be swayed here...

Yeah, I just got swayed, ESPY = best thing ever.  If you are a fan of hers, find this piece somewhere on YouTube tomorrow.  Wow, did not realize Pat had 6 miscarriages.  6 miscarriages.  I've never experienced that, but those I know that have been deeply affected by it.  It's a huge loss, and she felt the excitement of expecting and the loss of finding out she wouldn't have that child 6 times.  That's just not something I knew she had to deal with.  And her players talking about her just makes me want to get out there and impact someone, and then her mom at the end...  Give me the tissues.

I'm adding the link

And just disregard all I said above, they had another inspirational story later with the football player from Rutgers who was paralyzed.  Wow.

And that's why even though the dresses may not be as pretty and the speeches and intros may be a little more awkward, sports holds a special place in my heart.  Athletes and coaches are special people, who push for the best, and can inspire us all with what they do.  And that's why my falls are filled with football and why I enjoy ESPN.

I've loved this quote since I first saw it

I always turn to the sports section first. The sports section records people's accomplishments; the front page nothing but man's failures

Blogger Fail - Again and Happy Late 4th

So, I've kind of become a Blogger failure again.  So let's do a quick recap of the 4th!

I ran that morning, headed to Wal-Mart for pecan pie makings, and home to meet my sister and her family.  They stayed at the house for a minute, then headed to my parents.  I headed out there a little later.  My youngest sister was out of town at FFA camp, and was missed, but my grandmother was there, so it was a good crowd.

My contribution to the day!  Pretty delicious if I do say so myself!

That night we went and met some friends for food and firework.  We also received some much-needed, much prayed for rain!!
Will before the rain.
Will after the rain!  :-)

You know I've also been reminded recently of all the people out there keeping our country free.  Of course they should always be on my mind, but sometimes, it's just not.  Lately I've been running with a lady whose son is in Afghanistan.  His job is to look for the IED's.  Wow!  So, I've been sending up some prayers for Zach and his safety and all those others willing to serve!

Hope you had a great 4th!

Back from the Beach!

For a couple of years now, a friend of mine has been wanting me to join the women in her family for their annual beach trip.  I spent tons of time at their house growing up, and I still attend their Thanksgiving and other family functions.  It hasn't worked out to go until this year, but I finally got to join them.  It was so much fun.  Just what I needed.  Jessica (my friend), her mom, and one of her sister-in-law's moms headed down early Wednesday.  We arrived that afternoon, and the condo was great!  We did some grocery shopping before the others arrived, and then had some dinner.
View from the condo

The others arrived later that night.  Everyone was tired from the day on the road, and we headed to bed.  Thursday we were ready for the beach.  This is kind of beach trips go for me...

This...

quickly turns into this...

OUCH!!

So Friday I decided to do a little shopping with one of the sister-in-laws.  We had a great time, got to know each other a little better, and had frozen yogurt, great day!

Saturday was more beach and more burn.  That night we had dinner at Tacky Jacks, a fun restaurant

Jessica, Lacey (my shopping friend), and me

Sunday it was time to head home.  It was just a lot of fun, lots of laughs, lots of R&R, just what I was needing!

There is some pretty pealing and itching going on right now, but the worst of the leftovers is the feet.  I love walks on the beach but sunscreen needs to be reapplied before the walk begins!

They are slowly returning to normal and losing the purple look.
I just can't thank them enough for letting me join this year's trip.  Already looking forward to next time!

And look at all those pictures!!  I may get better at this after all!
